The two-day Oxford Wine Festival, held at the Union Building in the historic city-centre, was an incredible experience for the Vinifera team. Bringing together producers, importers, independent retailers and wine-related-companies from across the UK. The event opened on Friday evening to the sound of live music and the ‘clinking’ of wine glasses. The ticketed event attracts a loyal audience, each looking for that special bottle to take home or remember for another day.
Our table showcased the very best wines from Extremadura, Spain and Tuscany and Sardinia, Italy. In addition, complementary gourmet foods from Extremadura were well received by the evening guests. Baeturia Extra Virgin Olive Oils of Morsica and Carrasquena varieties were particularly popular.
Saturday had two tasting sessions, starting at midday and running until 10pm. The time of day reflected a different type of audience, on-the-way-home professionals and early-evening-socialites were replaced with families, groups of friends and couples enjoying the freedom to taste anything. Both Saturday sessions were a ‘sell-out’, reaching over 500 people, and footfall was steady and occasionally overwhelming. The Vinifera team did their very best to ensure everyone was able to taste and learn about the superb white, rosé and red wines available.
The final session, 6 -10pm, was the busiest of the festival for the Vinifera stand. An increased number of Spanish speaking attendees were drawn to us, many excitedly awaiting the Castilla y León tasting Pilar Bazán, Vinifera Wine Club Founder would present at 8.30pm. It was a pleasure to watch the expressions of delight as visitors to our stand tasted and enjoyed the delicious flavours of our wines.
Castilla y León wine tasting, delivered away from the main exhibition hall, was hailed as a great success by the audience of 32. The hour-long session was a lively, interactive affair, full of questions and comment from the multi-national group of attendees. The Oxford Wine Festival was incredibly well organised by Chris Bowling and his team, even the inclement and often thundery weather didn’t prevent any part of the festival from taking place. The Vinifera team would like to say ‘thank you’ to everyone we met, it was an absolute pleasure to talk to so many lovely people.
