Taste 100-point wines for charity at Big Canyon Country Club

Keep the Promise Sommelier Steven Poe

One of the best wine tasting events of the year is the annual Keep The Promise Wine Tasting Benefit, hosted by The Wooden Floor, a Santa Ana-based creative youth development nonprofit.

At this event, guests taste some of the best wines in the world while supporting young people who aspire to enroll in university. This year, all wines were rated 100 points by several authoritative wine reviews.

Since 2007, the organization has partnered with longtime supporters John and Janice Markley, former residents of Newport Beach who now live in Laguna Beach. They collect and donate 12 of the most exceptional wines in the world. While guests sample the wines, they can participate in activities for selected prizes, including the crowd-favorite blind tasting contest, opportunity drawings and a silent auction.

The event will take place at the Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach. Big Canyon Master Sommelier Steven Poe pairs the wines with signature small plates that will be offered at the event.

Among the wines to taste: Château Pontet-Canet 2009, Opus One 2013, Châteauneuf du Pape Grand Veneur 2010, Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Aubert Eastside Chardonnay 2013, Chapoutier Ermitage Cuvée de L’Orée Blanc 2013, and many others.

This event sells out every year, so get your tickets early. They cost $350 per person and are well worth it. Tickets will be available from August 8. Visit www.TheWoodenFloor.org/WineTasting for more details.
